Correctly fearing that Santa Anna might seize his supplies at Saltillo and Buena Vista, one the night of February 22 Taylor sent Archibald Yell's Arkansas Volunteers and 400 men of the Second Dragoons under Lt. Col. Charles May first to Hidiondo (Hedionda) and then to Saltillo, where they held off the Mexican flanking attack. Note flares fired by Minon's forces.
