NATIONAL ACCORDION ASSOCIATION

NATIONAL ACCORDION ASSOCIATION. The National Accordion Association (NAA) was established in 1986 as the Texas Accordion Association by accordionists in the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. By 2006 the organization had changed its name to the National Accordion Association. The group encourages the playing of all types of accordions, including the piano keyboard, chromatic, diatonic, free bass, bandoneon, and concertina. The NAA’s mission is to support accordionists and to promote an appreciation of the instrument by the public. It encourages accordionists to improve their musical skills both in a solo and group performance context. The organization supports an accordion network of regional and national activities and endeavors to disseminate information about those events to its members. The NAA’s annual convention, which includes hands-on workshops designed to develop performance techniques, concerts, a polka festival, public speakers, jam sessions, and a banquet, is held each March in the Dallas area. NAA celebrated its twenty-fifth year in 2011.
