SIMS FOUNDATION

SIMS FOUNDATION. The SIMS Foundation is an Austin-based nonprofit organization that provides low-cost mental health counseling and addiction recovery support for uninsured or underinsured musicians and primary family members living within a fifty-mile radius of Austin. SIMS is an acronym for Services Invested in Musicians. The foundation was created in 1995 following the death of Sims Ellison (1967–1995), bassist for the metal band Pariah. Sims suffered from extreme depression and took his own life after Pariah was dropped from the Geffen Label after the release of their first album To Mock a Killingbird. Sims Ellison was inducted into the Austin Music Memorial in 2011.

Since its inception the SIMS Foundation and its network of service providers have assisted thousands of musicians and their families. Counseling serves individuals, couples, families, and groups. Addiction recovery services include medical detoxification, inpatient treatment, and sober living programs. The SIMS Foundation is funded by benefit fundraisers and donations from individuals and businesses.
