LAKE WEATHERFORD. Lake Weatherford is on the Clear Fork of the Trinity River seven miles east of Weatherford in eastern Parker County (at 32°46' N, 97°40' W). In conjunction with Lake Mineral Wells, Lake Weatherford controls the floodwaters of the river. The project is owned and operated by the city of Weatherford. Construction on the dam began on June 1, 1956, and was completed on March 15, 1957. Lake Weatherford has a storage capacity of 19,600 acre-feet. The crest of the spillway is 896 feet above mean sea level. The lake covers a surface area of 1,280 acres, and the drainage area above the dam is 109 square miles. It is used as a municipal and industrial water source for Weatherford.
