SAND MOUNTAIN. Sand Mountain is five miles northwest of La Pryor in north central Zavala County (at 29°00' N, 99°55' W). Its elevation is 862 feet, and the area surrounding it ranges in elevation from 780 feet to 853 feet; U.S. Highway 83, four miles east, has an elevation of 800 feet. Steep to gentle slopes are surfaced by shallow to moderately deep clay and sandy loams that support scrub brush and grasses.
