FINLAY MOUNTAINS. The Finlay Mountains begin five miles north of Finlay in south central Hudspeth County and extend seven miles to the east (their center is at 31°21' N, 105°35' W). The highest elevation in the Finlays is 5,710 feet above sea level. The area's shallow, stony sandy and clay loams support live oak, piñon, juniper, and grasses. The mountains were named for J. R. Finlay, an early settler in the area.
