BLACK MOUNTAIN (JEFF DAVIS COUNTY)
BLACK MOUNTAIN (Jeff Davis County). Black Mountain is eleven miles northwest of Fort Davis in central Jeff Davis County (at 30°43' N, 103°59' W). A radio tower stands on its summit, which, at 7,544 feet above sea level, rises some 1,900 feet above a nearby spring in Big Aguja Canyon, a mile to the southeast. The shallow, stony soils on Black Mountain support Douglas fir, aspen, Arizona cypress, maple, ponderosa pine, and madrone.
