PIEDRA CREEK. Piedra Creek rises sixteen miles southwest of Fowlerton in east central La Salle County (at 28°16' N, 98°54' W) and runs southeast for fifteen miles to its mouth on the Nueces River, twenty-five miles southwest of Fowlerton (at 28°06' N, 98°51' W). The name is from the Spanish for "stone." Piedra Creek crosses flat terrain with locally shallow depressions, surfaced by expansive clays that support water-tolerant hardwoods, conifers, and grasses.
