MCDOWELL CREEK. McDowell Creek rises in northeast Shackelford County (at 32°50' N, 99°08' W) and flows four miles southeast to its mouth on Hubbard Creek Reservoir, in northwest Stephens County (at 32°48' N, 99°03' W). The creek has been dammed in its upper reaches, and much of it has been inundated by the reservoir. It flows through rolling hills where scrub brush, mesquite, cacti and grasses grow in clay and sandy loams.
