IONI CREEK (STEPHENS COUNTY)
IONI CREEK (Stephens County). Ioni Creek rises nineteen miles southeast of Breckenridge in southeastern Stephens County (at 32°36' N, 98°39' W) and runs northeast for twenty-four miles to its mouth on the Brazos River, seven miles northwest of Palo Pinto (at 32°48' N, 98°24' W). At first the terrain is flat with deep and dense dissections, surfaced by shallow stony soil, but later in the creek's course it changes to rolling hills surfaced by clay and sandy loams that support oak, juniper, mesquite, scrub brush, cacti, and grasses. The altitude of the terrain ranges from 900 to 1,000 feet above sea level.
