HICKORY CREEK (BURLESON COUNTY)
HICKORY CREEK (Burleson County). Hickory Creek rises eight miles northwest of Somerville in southwestern Burleson County (at 30°23' N, 96°40' W) and runs southeast for three miles through mostly open country to its mouth on Birch Creek (at 30°21' N, 96°39' W). It traverses gently sloping to nearly level terrain surfaced by loamy soils that support stands of post oak, blackjack oak, elm, and hackberry along its banks. Settlement in the vicinity began in the mid-1830s, and in the 1840s the Birch settlement was established on the west bank of the creek .
