GIDEON CREEK. Gideon Creek, formerly known as Burke Creek, rises a half mile south of Shooks Chapel in south central Hopkins County (at 33°04' N, 95°36' W) and runs southwest for 4½ miles before emptying into Birch Creek two miles east of Liberty (at 33°01' N, 95°38' W). The stream, which is intermittent in its upper reaches, traverses generally flat terrain with local shallow depressions and clay loam and sandy loam soils. The vegetation along the creek basin consists primarily of water-tolerant hardwoods, conifers, and grasses.
