CANON GRANDE. Canon Grande begins just north of the Kinney-Maverick county line in far southwestern Kinney County (at 29°06' N, 100°31' W) and runs southwest for nineteen miles to its mouth on the Rio Grande, three miles south of Quemado in northwestern Maverick County (at 28°57' N, 100°36' W). An intermittent stream runs through the canyon. The surrounding variable terrain is surfaced by clay and sandy loams that support scrub brush, some hardwoods, pecans, conifers, and grasses.
