CANYON CREEK (JEFF DAVIS COUNTY)
CANYON CREEK (Jeff Davis County). Canyon Creek rises on Antelope Flat 1½ miles southwest of Red Hills in northeastern Jeff Davis County (at 30°56' N, 103°57' W) and runs northeast for twenty-four miles to its mouth on Cherry Creek, four miles northeast of the Saragosa siding of the Pecos Valley Southern Railway in south central Reeves County (at 31°06' N, 103°41' W). Its course crosses steep to gentle slopes and flat to rolling terrain of caliche and alluvial sand, gravel, and mud. Soils in the area are brown sands and clay loams that support scrub brush, sparse grasses, creosote bush, and cacti.
