CEDAR CREEK (TAYLOR COUNTY)
CEDAR CREEK (Taylor County). Cedar Creek rises three miles north of Tuscola in east central Taylor County (at 32°14' N, 99°44' W) and runs north twenty miles to its mouth on Elm Creek, just across the county line in southeastern Jones County (at 32°32' N, 99°43' W). Cedar Creek is dammed to form Kirby Lake two miles south of Abilene. The land near the stream's source is rolling prairie surfaced by clay loams that support oak, juniper, mesquite, and grasses. Later in the stream's course the terrain becomes flat to gently sloping and is surfaced by silt loams that support mesquite and grasses.
