CEDAR CREEK (McCulloch County). Cedar Creek rises two miles west of Placid in northeastern McCulloch County (at 31°18' N, 99°14' W) and runs north for 14½ miles to its mouth on the Colorado River, seven miles northwest of Mercury (at 31°27' N, 99°16' W). The local terrain is generally flat with local depressions, surfaced by shallow, stony soils that support oak, juniper, and mesquite. For part of the creek's course the soils change to clay and sandy loams that support water-tolerant hardwoods, conifers, and grasses.
