CAVE CREEK (Gillespie County). Cave Creek rises a quarter mile west of Farm Road 1631 in east central Gillespie County (at 30°19' N, 98°43' W) and runs southeast for eight miles to its mouth on the Pedernales River west of Stonewall (at 30°14' N, 98°42' W). The creek rises in the hills of the eastern edge of the Edwards Plateau and crosses generally flat terrain broken by sections of steep slopes and limestone benches, which give a stairstep appearance to the landscape. The area is surfaced by clays and loams that support open stands of live oak and Ashe juniper and grasses.
