BLACK CREEK (Webb County). Black Creek, also known as Prieto Creek, rises twelve miles north of Bruni in southeastern Webb County (at 27°37' N, 98°55' W) and runs north for thirty-eight miles to its mouth on the Nueces River, thirty-one miles southeast of Cotulla in southeastern La Salle County (at 28°05' N, 98°53' W). The stream is intermittent for the first half of its course and is dammed seventeen miles below its source to form Biel Lake. It crosses flat terrain with local shallow depressions, surfaced by expansive clays that support water-tolerant hardwoods, conifers, and grasses.
