ARENOSA CREEK (VICTORIA COUNTY)
ARENOSA CREEK (Victoria County). Arenosa Creek rises three miles southwest of Fordtran in extreme northern Victoria County (at 29°01' N, 97°01' W) and flows east and southeast for thirty-five miles to its mouth on Garcitas Creek, eight miles southeast of Inez (at 28°50' N, 96°43' W). The stream is intermittent in its upper reaches and is a major drainage tributary of the area. It runs through level to gently sloping terrain surfaced primarily with clay and sandy loams that support a rich rangeland and cropland. Arenosa Creek formed part of the boundaries of the original land grants issued in the early 1830s to Martín De León and his son Fernando,qqv colonizers of present Victoria County. After annexation the state legislature made the creek part of the Victoria-Jackson county line, on March 31, 1846. The community of Arenosa is named after the creek.
