SUNSET INSTITUTE. Sunset Institute was established in Jacksonville, Texas, by the Jacksonville Educational Association, to provide a school during a period of disagreement over the public schools, 1890–92. Begun in 1891 at the northeast corner of South Bonner Street and Sunset Avenue, it had a capital stock of $10,000. In 1894 the property was donated as part of the bonus offered by Jacksonville to secure the Methodist college then at Kilgore. In the 1990s the L. E. Martin home occupied the site.
