RAYBURN, LEANDER M.
RAYBURN, LEANDER M. (ca.1831–?). Leander M. Rayburn, Confederate officer, was born around 1831 in Mississippi. In 1860 he was a resident of Gonzales County, Texas.
When the Civil War started, Rayburn was mustered into the Eighth Texas Cavalry, "Terry's Texas Rangers," where he was elected captain. Rayburn broke his arm during a skirmish in Tennessee and was furloughed through the summer of 1862 due to the injury. Upon his return he was promoted to major and soon after to lieutenant colonel. Rayburn received a gunshot wound to his elbow during the battle of Shiloh, which lead to his resignation on February 11, 1863. His whereabouts and death following the Civil War are unknown.
