MCDONOUGH, JOHN HENRY

MCDONOUGH, JOHN HENRY (1858–1938). John Henry McDonough, manufacturer, son of James Michael and Priscilla (Peak) McDonough, was born in Grahampton, Kentucky, on November 9, 1858. He moved to Denison, Texas, about 1881, becoming a postal clerk there in 1886 and assistant postmaster in 1890. On May 20, 1890, he married Mary C. Kirby; they were parents of three children. In 1895 McDonough moved to Dallas, where he was employed by the Keating Implement Company. He was agent for the Eagle Cotton Gin Company of Dallas in 1898–99 and in 1901 organized and headed the Murray Company, manufacturers of cotton gin and cottonseed oil mill machinery. He was a director of the Dallas Street Railway and Terminal Company and a member of the Board of Governors of the Dallas Community Trust. McDonough died in Dallas on February 2, 1938, and was buried there on February 4.
