JOHNSON, THADDEUS EDGAR
JOHNSON, THADDEUS EDGAR (1889–1972). T. Edgar Johnson, attorney and businessman, was born in Fairfield, Freestone County, Texas, on July 31, 1889, to Thaddeus Edgar Johnson, Sr., and Minnie Blanche (Milner) Johnson. After completing grade school and high school in Waco, Johnson attended the University of Texas where he earned an L.L.B. degree in 1915. He later studied law for one term at Oxford University.
Johnson began to practice law in 1915 but interrupted that career to serve in World War I. He attended the First Officers Training Camp at Leon Springs, Texas, and became a captain in the 344th Field Artillery unit of the United States Army. He served in Europe with the Ninetieth Division.
Upon returning to Texas after World War I, Johnson moved to Breckinridge where he practiced law. He married Robbie Davis in July 1920. The couple had one daughter, Mary Frances Johnson.
In 1930 Johnson moved his family to Vernon where he owned and operated the Johnson-Davis Ford Motor Company for the next thirty years. He also engaged in the oil and gas business and ranching during this period. Active in civic affairs, he served as president of the Vernon Chamber of Commerce. He was also a leading member of the First United Methodist Church and the Masonic Lodge. Johnson retired from his career in business in 1960. He died on October 28, 1972, and was buried at the Wilbarger Memorial Park in Vernon.
