DASHIELL, L. TRAVIS (1869–1924). L. Travis Dashiell, lawyer and legislator, son of Benjamin D. and Julia A. Dashiell, was born at Chappell Hill, Texas, on April 30, 1869. From 1886 to 1890 he attended the University of Texas, where he was commencement orator of the Rusk Literary Society in 1889. He was admitted to the bar at Centerville in 1891 and appointed county attorney of Leon County in January 1892. He was a member of the Twenty-third through the Twenty-fifth legislatures, speaker of the House of the Twenty-fifth Legislature, and secretary of state from January 1907 to February 1908. He died on October 21, 1924, of a self-inflicted bullet wound and was buried at Jewett.
