WASHINGTON AMERICAN. The Washington American was founded by George W. Crawford and George W. Perkins at Washington-on-the-Brazos on November 1, 1855, and published until some time in 1857. The newspaper supported the American (Know-Nothing) Party and covered William Walker's filibustering efforts in Nicaragua.
