NACONICHE CREEK. Naconiche Creek (Naconiche Bayou) rises in northern Nacogdoches County just north of Farm Road 1087 (at 31°51' N, 94°38' W) and runs southeast for nineteen miles to its mouth on Attoyac Bayou, two miles northeast of Martinsville (at 31°38' N, 94°22' W). The stream is intermittent in its upper reaches. It traverses flat terrain with local shallow depressions, surfaced by clay and sandy loams that support water-tolerant hardwoods, conifers, and grasses. The stream was named for the Nacaniche Indians, a Caddoan group that originally inhabited the area.
