NAILS CREEK. Nails Creek rises in south central Lee County 2½ miles west of Giddings (at 30°11' N, 96°58' W). The creek, which is intermittent in its upper reaches, flows northeast for twenty-five miles, through eastern Lee County, before emptying into Yegua Creek on the Lee-Burleson county line 1½ miles northeast of St. Mary's Church near Somerville Lake State Park (at 30°17' N, 96°40' W). The lower section of the creek's course has been inundated by Somerville Lake. The creek basin is characterized by generally flat terrain with local shallow depressions and clay and sandy loam soils. Vegetation consists primarily of water-tolerant hardwoods and grasses.
