LA JARITA CREEK. La Jarita Creek, also known as San Patricio Creek, rises west of State Highway 16 in south central Atascosa County (at 28°43' N, 98°34' W), and runs south for eleven miles to its mouth on San Miguel Creek, near the Greene Franklin oilfield in northern McMullen County (at 28°35' N, 98°31' W). The stream, which is dammed in its upper reaches, traverses flat terrain with local shallow depressions, where water-tolerant hardwoods, conifers, and grasses grow in clay and sandy loam soils.
