KENDRICK, HARVEY W. (1792–1849). Harvey W. Kendrick, early settler, merchant, and legislator, was born in Georgia on April 14, 1792. He was commissioned in the Georgia Militia in 1813 and served until 1819. In July 1815 he married Maria G. Hall and in 1835 moved to Texas and settled in Matagorda as a merchant. He served as mayor of Matagorda in 1838 and as senator representing Matagorda, Jackson, and Victoria counties in the Third, Fourth, and Fifth congresses of the Republic of Texas. He was a member of the House in the Eighth Congress. In 1845 he held the contract for a mail route from Columbus to Matagorda. He died at Matagorda on April 5, 1849.
