GALLOWAY, AMOS PONDER (1816–1871). Amos Ponder Galloway, doctor and legislator, was born on October 1, 1816, in Oglethorpe, Georgia, son of Anderson and Deliah (Ponder) Galloway. He married Caroline Gewin of Moulton, Alabama, on December 27, 1843. After her death he married Mary H. Pruitt of Lawrence, Alabama, on January 3, 1849. Galloway and his family moved to Texas and settled in Rusk County. In 1851 he was elected to the board of trustees for the Mount Enterprise Male and Female Academyqv in Laneville. He was elected to the Sixth Texas Legislature in 1855 as a member of the House of Representatives. Galloway served as the postmaster of San Cosme, about eleven miles southwest of Henderson, in 1855 and again in 1861.
Galloway belonged to the Mount Carmel Baptist Church. He died on October 3, 1871, in Rusk County.
