GALVESTON AND RED RIVER RAILROAD. The Galveston and Red River Railroad Company was chartered on March 11, 1848. Construction was planned to begin on Galveston Bay and continue to a point on the Red River between the eastern boundary of Texas and Coffee's Station. Ebenezer Allen received the charter for the line, and Paul Bremond of Houston was one of the early incorporators of the railroad. The GRR built two miles of track in Houston in 1855 and the following year became the Houston and Texas Central Railway.
