FAIRVIEW, TEXAS (Howard County). Fairview, on U.S. Highway 87 five miles northwest of Big Spring in central Howard County, was named for the view afforded by the flat land around it. In 1930 it had a population of fifteen and two commercially rated businesses. By 1940 its population had grown to fifty, and a school was located there. Between 1950 and 1960 the population was 100, but the last business had closed. In 1980, 1990, and 2000 the population was eighty-five.
