FERNÁNDEZ CARRASCO, PEDRO (?-?). Pedro Fernández Carrasco was a pilot in the Armada de Barlovento and diarist of the Rivas-Pez expedition, sent from Veracruz in 1688 to search for René Robert Cavalier, Sieur de La Salleqv. Fernández relates in detail the ascent of the Soto la Marina River of Tamaulipas and the Rio Grande, a distance of "thirty-six leagues." He also chronicles the reconnaissance of Matagorda Bay, where the Rivas-Iriarte expedition had seen wreckage of La Salle's ships the year before.
