EGERTON, HENRY (?-?). Henry Egerton, a native of New York, was long a resident of Matamoros, Tamaulipas. In May 1832 James Prentiss gave him a letter of introduction to Sam Houston. On January 1, 1834, Egerton and Fortunato Soto secured an empresario grant to settle 800 families in Texas, but their contract was never fulfilled. In January 1844 Egerton and Soto were in correspondence with Benjamin Lundy concerning petitioning for land in northern Mexico. D. E. Egerton, an Englishman, was also a Texas empresario.
