DANIELS, JASPER N. (1830–1901). Jasper N. Daniels, Texas legislator and judge, was born October 16, 1830, in Washington County, Georgia. He immigrated to Texas in January of 1853 and settled in Austin County. On October 27, 1859, Jasper N. Daniels married Edith Elizabeth Manley with whom he had sixteen children.

In August of 1859 Daniels, a respected planter in Travis, Austin County, was elected to the Texas House of Representatives. Upon the beginning of the Civil War he enlisted in the Confederate Army and served as a captain throughout the war. In 1884 Captain Daniels and his family moved to Cotulla, LaSalle County. There he served as a justice of the peace and from 1892 to 1898 as a county judge. Capt. Jasper N. Daniels died in Cotulla on August 4, 1901, and is buried in Cotulla Cemetery.
