The TSHA offers a variety of programs for students at the elementary, middle, and secondary school and college levels. These programs provide fun and rewarding ways for students to dig into Texas history in a meaningful way.
In the JUNIOR HISTORIANS program, students undertake extended research projects. Their results may be published in the quarterly Texas Historian, one of the few journals in the nation dedicated to publishing students' work.
TEXAS HISTORY DAY, part of the National History Day program, is an annual competition in which students in grades six through twelve demonstrate their knowledge of history through papers, performances, documentary presentations, or exhibits. If you win at the regional and state levels, you can compete against students from all over the U.S. at National History Day in Washington, D.C.!
The WALTER PRESCOTT WEBB HISTORICAL SOCIETY, which meets twice a year, encourage high school and college students to research and write about the history of Texas. The results may be published in the annual journal Touchstone.
STUDENT PUBLICATIONS sponsored by the TSHA include the Texas Historian and Roadrunner, the journal and newsletter of the Junior Historians program; and Touchstone and the Telegraph and Texas Register, the journal and newsletter of the Webb Society.
The TSHA has links to a number of RESOURCES designed for students of all levels, including Student Guides and other materials on our own Web site and external links to other cool sites of interest.
The TSHA's quarterly TEXAS HISTORY CONTEST is a fun way for students to test themselves on different aspects of the state's history, using the Handbook of Texas Online as a basis for research.
