The Texas State Historical Association and the University of Texas at Austin produce Texas Day by Day as a public service. Editors with the association's Handbook of Texas program oversee content development. Web site design and programming is provided by the Digital Library Services Division of the UT Austin General Libraries. Primary credit for the stories goes to the more than 3,000 authors who contributed articles to the New Handbook of Texas, published in six volumes by the Texas State Historical Association in 1996. Retired U.S. Air Force colonel and former high school social studies teacher Arthur K. Leatherwood wrote a number of the original feature stories.
