TEXAS STATE HISTORICAL ASSOCATION

K-12 Student Program Coordinator

The Texas State Historical Association, a private, nonprofit educational organization, is seeking a K-12 Student Program Coordinator who will be responsible for coordinating educational programs aimed at promoting history education among youth with an emphasis on Texas history. The position will be responsible for implementing plans based on information provided through a collaborative effort with other education staff members in the Association's new offices in Denton beginning November 1, 2008.

Preferred candidates will have a Texas Educator Certification and experience with students grades 4-12, experience with event planning, experience in program development and administration, and proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite, Dreamweaver and Internet Explorer.

Duties include:
  • Develop, plan, schedule and implement activities, meetings and workshops for Texas History Day, Junior Historians of Texas, Texas Quiz Show and other related programs. 
  • Moderate editorial duties associated with an annual student research journal.
  • Prepare curricular materials to support student programs. 
  • Assist with recruitment of program participants and sponsors. 
  • Generate and manage publicity. 
  • Coordinate production of print and electronic promotional publications.
  • Write reports, press releases, and other materials as needed.
  • Assist with meeting management for other TSHA events. 
  • Up to 20% travel is required.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree.
Experience teaching, counseling or advising students in an academic program setting; or experience in similar student programs.
PC experience using word processing, email and internet applications.
Excellent written, interpersonal and public speaking communication skills.
Ability to work in a team environment, meet deadlines and work on multiple tasks simultaneously.
Professional demeanor.
Licenses: Class C Driver's License.

Compensation:
Benefits include medical, dental, 401(k), vacation and sick leave.
Salary is $38,000 - $43,000 depending on experience.

Work Hours:
This is a full time, exempt position; hours are between 8:00-5:00, Monday through Friday with some weekend duty and travel.
